Are your split pins split?

Increasingly during Condition Surveys split pins whether on rigging or other fittings about a vessel are being found inadequately split, making them ultimately unsafe and prone to working loose. Only recently a split pin on a backstay was noted completed un-split and inverted and it was only a matter of time before the pin dropped out and the backstay toggle pin free to worn loose.

92' Sloop 'Bristolian' Refit in Genoa

Hamble Marine Surveys have been appointed to supervise the refit of a 92' CNB Custom Sloop 'Bristolian'. After conducting a Pre-Purchase Survey on 'Bristolian' in Cannes back in April 2012 for her new owners, Julian Smith of Hamble Marine Surveys was asked to supervise the refit of the vessel in Genoa, Italy and inspect the Southern Spars carbon mast and rigging.

RIB Damage Survey

Hamble Marine Surveys have been asked to survey a RIB following gelcoat cracking appearing on the GRP moulded hull. Using tap testing, moisture measurement meters and stain the hull of this 7m RIB was mapped and the gelcoat cracking investigated for its significance and possible cause. Detailed inspections were undertaken externally and internally on the GRP hull and around load area especially around the transom and bow.

MCA Coding of a Lagoon Catamaran

Julian Smith of Hamble Marine Surveys has been busy in La Rochelle in France preparing a brand new Lagoon 450 Catamaran for charter in the British Virgin Islands (BVI's). After completion of the standard commissioning process the vessel had to be equipped and prepared for inspection to meet the MCA Code of Practice as is required for any red ensign flagged vessel commercially operated.
